Home Ownership Month – Governor Michelle Lujan Girsham

STATEOFNEWMEXICO EXECUTIVE OFFICE SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO

WHEREAS, every American should have the opportunity for prosperity and financial security, and for many Americans, home ownership is the best way to achieve these goals,· and
WHEREAS, home ownership helps individuals build equity and net worth over time, leading to greater consumer spending that spurs robust economic growth, creating jobs and income; and
WHEREAS, the median net worth of home-owning families has increased nearly I 5 percent since 2013, while it declined by about 9 percent for renter families, partly due to ever-increasing rental costs,·
WHEREAS, home ownership also has psychological benefits, resulting in a sense of accomplishment, personal satisfaction and greater happiness for homeowners and those around them; and
WHEREAS, increased home ownership can contribute to greater social cohesion, lower crime rates and increased civic engagement because homeowners have a vested stake in their communities:
NOW THEREFORE, I, Michelle Lujan Grisham, Governor of the State of New Mexico, do hereby proclaim June 2020 as

“HOME OWNERSHIP MONTH”

throughout the state of New Mexico.
